Kyle Silvestre Leads the Charge in Race to the Sun Opening Round

Johannesburg, November 19, 2023 - The prestigious Royal Johannesburg East Championship Course witnessed an exhilarating start to Peacock Golf’s annual tournament, 'Race to the Sun.' The opening round was marked by impressive performances, with Kyle Silvestre emerging victorious, reminiscent of his triumph two years ago.


Silvestre’s Strong Start: Silvestre, a former champion, shot an 82, netting a 73 to clinch the top spot. His exceptional play sets a high standard for the season, showcasing his determination to reclaim the title.

Steyn and Milne Close Behind: Dylan Steyn, despite his relentless pursuit, is still chasing his first win. He finished second with a 95 gross and 75 nett, tied with the consistently formidable Mark Milne, who also carded a 75 nett from an 82 gross.


A Tightly Contested Field: The leaderboard was closely packed, in a remarkable turn of events, four players - Greg Blom (86 for nett 76) James Phillips (81 for 76 nett), Ryan Merrifield (89 for 76 nett), and Brian Lee (82 for 76 nett) - found themselves tied for the fourth position. The eighth spot saw another tie among Greg Milne (83), Brett Peters (90), Jarrod Nel (95), and Devin Lithgow (87), all scoring a 78 nett.

Prizes and Recognitions: The winner, Kyle Silvestre, received a cash prize of R1000. Each of these achievements earned the players a R500 pro shop voucher.

Team Championship Launch: An exciting addition this year was the inauguration of the Peacock Golf Team Championship. The format saw teams competing, with the top three players’ Stableford points from each team being aggregated. The winning team, 'Firey Foreskins GC,' included Allan Bader, Devin Lithgow, Kyle Silvestre, and Tumelo Stewart, bagging a prize of R2000 (R500 per player).
